Iranian Military

The Iranian Military, officially known as the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, encompasses the military forces of Iran, including the regular military (Artesh) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Artesh is responsible for conventional military operations and defense of the country, while the IRGC, established after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, plays a crucial role in safeguarding the Islamic Republic and includes land, air, and naval forces.

The Iranian Military’s primary mission is to defend Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests. It is also involved in internal security and regional power projection, influencing various aspects of Iran’s geopolitical strategy. The military maintains a significant focus on self-sufficiency in defense capabilities, developing indigenous military technologies.

The Iranian Military operates within the context of both national defense policy and Islamic ideology, reflecting the unique political system of Iran. It has a notable involvement in regional conflicts and operates alongside various paramilitary and auxiliary forces, playing a vital role in Iran’s foreign policy and relations within the Middle East.
